Super Simple Individual Monkey Breads
Since the 1950s, the "Pinch Me" bread has been popular as a play food here in the U.S. but few other places. Even though it has been referred to as African Monkey Bread in the past, there is just no reference to it up until recently outside of our borders. It was originally conceived to be pulled apart with your fingers for breakfast, but now I think it is a great, fun dessert anytime of the day and is especially fun for the kids to enjoy.
This is the one time I don't mind the kids loudly smacking at their fingertips while eating. Heck, they aren't the only ones not letting any of the goodness get smeared on our clothes.
For 4 people
- 6 refrigerated biscuits, cut into quarters*
- 1/2 cup(s) sugar
- 1/2 cup(s) brown sugar
- 2 teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoon(s) maple syrup
- Prepared Caramel Sauce
Super Simple Individual Monkey Breads Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 6-cup muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray. Into a bowl, add sugars and cinnamon. Whisk together to combine. Place cut biscuits pieces into sugar mixture. Toss to combine and coat well. Evenly distribute 4 coated biscuit pieces in each muffin cup. Sprinkle the top with more sugar/cinnamon mix and drizzle an equal amount of maple syrup over the tops. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the monkey bread has risen above the lip of the muffin cups and is golden.
- Remove from oven and while still hot, but being careful, remove the monkey breads from the cups with a spoon or two and allow to cool 5 minutes, while heating caramel sauce.
- Heat Caramel Sauce in microwave just until pourable and warm. When ready to serve Monkey Breads, drizzle warm caramel over the top of each.
- *By all means make your own biscuit dough. Just make sure when you roll it out, it isn't thicker than about 1/2-3/4-inch high.
